Under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Professor Dr. Sarmed H. Kathem Alkhateeb, the Rehabilitation and Employment Unit at the University of Baghdad/College of Pharmacy organized an awareness activity on the harms of smoking on Sunday, April 19, 2026, with the participation of a number of fifth stage (Pharm-D) students and several faculty members.
The activity aimed to promote health awareness among students and emphasize the importance of avoiding smoking due to its negative impact on public health. Also, it highlighted the health and social risks associated with smoking, as well as its role in increasing the likelihood of developing chronic diseases.
The activity included the distribution and presentation of educational brochures illustrating the various harms of smoking, short lectures addressing its effects on the body, interactive educational discussions were held with students to answer their questions and correct common misconceptions related to smoking.
The activity concluded with an emphasis on the importance of continuing such awareness initiatives, which contribute to building a healthy university environment and strengthening students’ role in spreading health awareness within the community. This comes as part of the college’s commitment to community service and to promoting a higher level of health awareness while combating negative habits.
