Under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Professor Dr. Sarmed H. Kathem Alkhateeb, the Continuing Education Unit at the University of Baghdad/College of Pharmacy held an in-person workshop entitled “Fluorescence Microscope”, delivered by Assistant Lecturer Mohammed Hassan Mohammed and Assistant Lecturer Zoubaida Khalil Ibrahim, faculty members at the Clinical Laboratory Sciences Department.

The workshop aimed to introduce the fluorescence microscope and its working principle, as well as to highlight its importance in laboratory diagnostics and scientific research.

The workshop included several topics, including an introduction to the fluorescence microscope, its basic components, and its mechanism of action, as well as an explanation of the principle of fluorescence and how light is absorbed and emitted. Also, the workshop reviewed the types of fluorescent dyes, their properties, and their uses in diagnostic and research fields. Furthermore, it addressed the most important applications of the fluorescence microscope in laboratory diagnosis, particularly in detecting microorganisms and abnormal cells. In addition, the workshop included a practical component, demonstrating how to operate the instrument, prepare and examine samples, and outlining key guidelines for obtaining accurate results and avoiding common errors during use.

The workshop concluded that the fluorescence microscope is an important tool in achieving accurate diagnosis and contributes to the early detection of many diseases, and its use requires training and experience to ensure accurate and reliable results.
