Under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Professor Dr. Sarmed H. Kathem Alkhateeb, the University Psychological Counseling Unit, in cooperation with the Continuing Education Unit at the College of Pharmacy / University of Baghdad, organized an in-person  workshop entitled “Water Consumption Rationalization towards a Sustainable Environment” delivered by Dr. Laith Juda Karim, a faculty member at the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences/ University of Baghdad.

The workshop aimed to highlight the water challenges facing Iraq considering climate change and declining river levels, and to promote a culture of rational water use to achieve sustainable development.

The workshop included several key topics, including emphasizing the importance of water from both religious and environmental perspectives, reviewing the status of water resources in Iraq and the challenges they face, analyzing consumption patterns and the high rates of water waste across different sectors, and shedding light on its causes and impacts. Also , it discussed community-based solutions and proposals that contribute to improving water management and promoting a culture of conservation, as well as the importance of adopting modern technologies in water resource management to achieve sustainability.

The workshop concluded with the necessity of developing water infrastructure and adopting modern irrigation techniques, activating the role of the government in establishing policies that support water conservation, and emphasizing the importance of raising public awareness about water preservation. It stressed that every drop of water saved today represents a step toward a sustainable future.
