The Dean of the University of Baghdad, College of Pharmacy, Prof. Dr. Sarmed H. Kathem Alkhateeb, attended on Monday, August 10, 2026, the activities of the conference entitled “The Risks of Addiction and Its Devastating Effects on Society,” at the invitation of Dr. Ihsan Al-Naqeeb, President of the League for Promotion of Medicine and Medical Appliances (LPMMA). The conference was held under the patronage of the Iraqi Pharmacists Syndicate and organized by the LPMMA in cooperation with JAD Youth Against Drugs Association, Lebanon, at the Medical Syndicates Complex.
Held under the theme “Immunizing Tomorrow,” the conference highlighted the risks of illicit drugs and addiction and their health and social consequences for individuals, families, and society. It also emphasized the importance of raising public awareness to address this growing issue, particularly through protecting young people from this threat and confronting its consequences.
The college’s participation in this event reflects its commitment to promoting social responsibility and supporting health and awareness initiatives, in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being, by supporting drug prevention efforts and protecting public health, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, through strengthening cooperation among academic, professional, and community institutions to contribute to building a more aware, healthier, and sustainable society.
