Under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Professor Dr. Sarmed Hashim Al-Khateeb, the Scientific Affairs Unit at the College of Pharmacy, University of Baghdad, held an in-person workshop entitled “Practical Training on the Use of the CombiFlash System for the Separation and Purification of Chemical Compounds.” The workshop was delivered by Ali, Professor Dr. Inas Kadhem Jawad, Assistant Professor Dr. Ayad Abd, Assistant Lecturer Rusul Mohammed Hassan, Assistant Lecturer Halah Abdul Sahib, Assistant Lecturer Marwa Hashim, and Assistant Lecturer Mais Abdul Ridha, in College of Pharmacy, University of Baghdad.

The workshop aimed to develop postgraduate students’ practical skills in the separation, purification of chemical compounds, enhance their ability to use modern techniques employed in research laboratories, thereby supporting the requirements of their scientific research.

The workshop included several topics, including hands-on training in chromatographic separation techniques using the CombiFlash system; an introduction to the operating principles and procedures of the instrument; selection of appropriate solvent systems; separation, purification of chemical compounds; collection of fractions obtained during the separation process. It addressed the selection of suitable separation conditions according to the nature of chemical compounds and medicinal plant extracts, the importance of the instrument in improving separation efficiency, increasing the purity of laboratory-prepared or extracted substances, development of students’ skills in handling modern laboratory equipment.

The workshop concluded by emphasizing the importance of practical training on the CombiFlash system in enhancing the research capabilities of postgraduate students , enabling them to apply separation and purification techniques in the preparation of chemical compounds , improvement of their purity. These skills contribute to improving the quality of scientific results and strengthening research capabilities.
