Under the auspices of the respected Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Assistant Professor Dr. Sarmed Hashim Kathem, faculty members from the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology supervised a group of students from the fourth-stage/ Pharm D class of the College of Pharmacy / University of Baghdad in a scientific visit to the Poisoning Consultation Center in Medical City, in order to provide the students with the practical aspects of the center’s work, methods of detecting toxicity of materials and the main instruments used and matching that with their theoretical courses to reach the ultimate goal of the college, which is to prepare qualified and trained pharmacists to work in various fields. Our college also highly appreciates the great cooperation and facilities provided by the Poisoning Consultation Center, starting with the respected Director of the Center, Dr. Hussein Kathem Hamody, who provided a detailed explanation about the evidence-based practice guidelines that are followed by the center’s specialists and how to deal with various poisoning cases as well as the medicines available for this purpose and their optimal use. The specialized work team in the center also contributed to introducing the students to the most important tests used to detect various poisoning cases. The specialized pharmacist Noor Ahmed Mohamed Hassan / Head of Pharmacists and Mr. Haider Hassan Kathem / Head of Chemists at the center introduced the students to various units in the center and described how various poisoning cases are managed in detail, in addition to the materials and instruments used and data analysis methods. The students interact through the discussions and questions that were asked. A number of fourth-stage/ Pharm D class students under the supervision of Lecturer Dr. Alaa Radhi Khudhair, Lecturer Dr. Farah Kais Abdul-Wahab, Assistant Lecturer Safa Mustafa Najim, and Assistant Lecturer Maryam Rasheed Abd participated in this scientific visit.
