Under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Associate Professor Dr. Sarmed H. Kathum Alkhateeb, the Scientific Affairs Unit in the College of Pharmacy/University of Baghdad, held an in-person seminar given by the MSc student in the clinical pharmacy department, pharmacist Nawar Abdul Ridha Abood, about Medication-Related Burden among Iraqi Patients with Crohn’s Disease, as a part of the M.Sc. study thesis to obtain his MSc degree, under the supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. Dheyaa Jabbar Kadhim and the Gastroenterology and Hepatology consultant Dr. Raghad Jawad HusseinThe seminar included an introduction to Crohn’s disease and how it occurs, as it is caused by a variety of pathological factors and its incidence worldwide, and introduction to the medication-related burden in Crohn’s diseaseThis cross-sectional study was designed to evaluate the medication-related burden among Iraqi patients with Crohn’s disease, and since there is no previous study to measure the medication-related burden among Iraqi patients with Crohn’s disease, this study is considered the first in this field for Iraqi patientsThis study, which included 94 Crohn’s patients (58 males and 36 females), revealed that the mean total burden score was (102.7 ± 20.6) with more than half (54.3%) of the patients experiencing a minimum degree of medication burden, followed by moderate burden (29.8%), no burden (8.5%), and high burden  (7.4%). The results showed Crohn’s disease patients have experienced a high medication-related burden in terms of cost, concerns, and autonomy and a low burden in other terms. Disease activity was independently correlated with the total burden score.
