Under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Associate Professor Dr. Sarmed H. Kathum Alkhateeb, the Scientific Affair Unit in the College of Pharmacy/University of Baghdad, held an in-person seminar given by the MSc student in the Clinical Pharmacy Department, pharmacist Zahraa Murtadha Nassrullah, about the professional challenges facing Iraqi pharmacists working at public hospitals, which is a part of the MSc study thesis to obtain her MSc degree, under the supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. Ali A. Al-Jumaili.The study revealed the presence of many factors that hinder the work of pharmacists within government hospitals. The study showed that the shortage of medications causes many consequences that cause unsmooth workflow in health institutions in general and pharmacists’ performance in particular. The study also showed that the increasing number of newly graduated pharmacists is still a major challenge because they do not receive adequate training while studying in colleges as well as in hospitals. The results indicated the need to increase awareness, educate other healthcare providers about the role that pharmacists play in hospitals, and improve their level of performance. Additionally, collaboration between pharmacists and other healthcare providers is needed to overcome these challenges.
