Under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Assistant Professor Dr. Sarmed H. Kathum Alkhateeb, the Scientific Affairs Unit in the College of Pharmacy/University of Baghdad, held an in-person seminar entitled “New Tolfenamic Acid Derivatives with Hydrazine-1-Carbothioamide and 1,3,4-Oxadiazole Moieties Targeting VEGFR: Synthesis, in-silico Studies, and in vitro Anticancer Assessment,” which was delivered by Assistant Lecturer Worood Shihab Ahmed to present research published by the faculty members and postgraduate students in the Pharmaceutical Chemistry Department and to exchange ideas and access to the scientific productions. The study aimed to prepare and conduct laboratory diagnosis for new compounds using spectroscopic analysis techniques such as IR spectroscopy, proton NMR, and precise elemental analysis. Additionally, a study on the molecular interaction of the prepared compounds with the epidermal growth factor receptor kinase (EGFR kinase) was done. An experiment measuring the proliferation index of treated cells with compounds derived from tolfenamic acid was conducted using the MTT assay. This assay helps determine whether the prepared compound possesses biological activity that enables it to kill cancer cells.
