Under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Associate Professor Dr. Sarmed H. Kathum Alkhateeb, and in cooperation with the Clinical Pharmacy Unit at Al-Wasity Teaching Hospital and the Iraqi Women Pharmaceutical Committee in the Iraqi Pharmacists’ Syndicate, Assistant Professor Dr. Fadya Yaqoob Al-Hamadani, a faculty member at the Clinical Pharmacy Department, delivered a scientific lecture about the safe disposal of medicines, in the presence of the director of Al-Wasity Teaching Hospital, Dr. Abbas Al-Sahn, along with a number of pharmacists from several hospitals.The lecture aimed to introduce the audience to the dangers of improper disposal of medicines for the environment and the health system in general.The lecture included methods of safe disposal of all pharmaceutical products in different ways and according to the type of medicine. It also presented the opinion of pharmacists on this important topic through studies published in several countries with the methods used in both developed and developing countries, including Iraq.The lecture concluded by giving tips to overcome the health issues that result from the waste of medicines and not following the correct ways to get rid of them.
