The researcher, Lecturer Dr. Nuha Mohammed Abdul Khaleq, a faculty member at Al-Mustafa University/Pharmacy Department, and Professor Dr. Muwaffaq Mohammed Ghareeb, a faculty member at the Pharmaceutics Department at the University of Baghdad/College of Pharmacy, have obtained a patent entitled “Preparation and Evaluation of Floating Capsules in the Stomach from Poly Lactic Acid Threads Using 3D Printing Technology,” from the Central Organization for Standardization and Quality Control at the Ministry of Planning. The aim of the study was to achieve sustained drug release over 12 hours in the stomach by formulating gastro-floating drug delivery dosage forms in two different approaches using hot melt extrusion (HME) and fused deposition modeling (FDM) 3D printing and then comparing between them and selecting the best approach, thereby decreasing the side effects of the drug and enhancing patient compliance.
