Under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Associate Professor Dr. Sarmed H. Kathum Alkhateeb, the Continuing Education Unit at the College of Pharmacy/University of Baghdad held an in-person workshop entitled “Preserving the Environment: Proper Disposal of Chemicals in the Laboratory”, delivered by Lecturer Shayma Luay Abdulhadi, a faculty member at the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry. The workshop aimed to teach laboratory workers how to properly dispose of chemicals.The most important topics of the workshop included separating solid chemicals from liquid ones, as well as classifying liquid materials and separating them from each other according to the characteristics of the chemical substances, in addition to separate broken glass tools from intact ones and sharp tools, each in its own container, with detailed information about its contents written on it.As a result, it is important to follow safety and health rules and the correct principles and instructions for disposing of chemicals in laboratories in a way that ensures the safety of workers, in addition to the safety of individuals in society, to prevent their exposure to harmful chemicals, and finally to preserve the environment and not pollute the water, air, and soil.
