The College of Pharmacy discussed the MSc thesis entitled “Synthesis, Characterization, and Preliminary Evaluation of Antimicrobial Activity of New Sulfonamide Derivatives” by the student Ali Abdulhadi Mosleh Hassan and the supervisor, Lecturer Dr. Zainab Abdelhadi Dakhel, at the Pharmaceutical Chemistry Department. The study aimed to synthesize new sulfonamide derivatives containing 1,2,4-triazole rings and evaluate their antimicrobial activity based on the minimum inhibitory concentration. The study included the synthesis of 1,2,4-triazole rings from carboxylic acids using various methods. The results showed that most of the synthesized compounds exhibited good activity against various strains of microorganisms compared to antimicrobial drugs. The study recommended assessment of the anticancer activity as histone deacetylase (HDAC) inhibitors.
