The College of Pharmacy discussed the MSc thesis entitled “Design, Synthesis, and Preliminary Pharmacological Evaluation of Conjugated NSAIDs with Gama Aminobutyric Acid or its Analogs” by the student Noor Wahhab Saleh and the supervisor, Associate Professor Tagreed N-A Omar, at the Pharmaceutical Chemistry Department. The study aimed to design and synthesize new derivatives of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (IIa-Vd). The study included introducing the ester group with gabapentin through acetyl linkage via Schiff base formation as intermediate compounds (Ia-d). The modeling of the compounds as anti-inflammatory and antibacterial activities was studied, and the above activities were also studied experimentally. The results showed that the manufactured compounds were highly effective as anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and antifungal agents. The discussion committee recommended studying the hydrolysis activity of the prepared compounds due to their importance and the possibility of using them as prodrugs. The committee also recommended completing the study on the effectiveness of the prepared compounds as anticancer agents, as the results of the modeling study (Docking study) were very good.
