Under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Associate Professor Dr. Sarmed H. Kathem Alkhateeb, the Continuing Education Unit in collaboration with the Ibn Sina Unit for E-learning hosted an electronic workshop on cancer research on Tuesday, November 12, 2024. Assistant Professor Dr. Ali Azeez Ali from the Clinical Pharmacy Department, in collaboration with Dr. Anas Hamad, an expert at Hamad Medical Corporation and Director of Pharmacy Department at Qatar’s National Center for Cancer Care and Research in Doha and a lecturer at the College of Pharmacy, Qatar University, delivered the workshop. Dr. Hamad, with his extensive experience and numerous publications in the field of cancer drugs, provided valuable insights into the workshop. A large number of researchers, professors from different universities in addition to graduate students from the Clinical Pharmacy Department attended the workshop. Dr. Ali Azeez presented an overview of clinical research types and how graduate students and researchers can select the appropriate type. Dr. Anas Hamad delved deeper into cancer drug research, clinical trials, and the factors to be measured in cancer patients. He provided examples from research conducted at Hamad Medical Corporation that could be replicated by pharmacists, researchers, and graduate students in medical colleges. Dr. Anas emphasized that some research projects require a significant amount of time and that students should choose projects that can be completed within their study period, in collaboration with their supervisors and specialist physicians at the hospital. This workshop marked the first time the College of Pharmacy, University of Baghdad, hosted a Qatari expert in cancer research. The faculty is committed to fostering partnerships and collaborations with international research institutions and universities to leverage their expertise and introduce new ideas that can benefit the Iraqi healthcare system and patients.
