Under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Associate Professor Dr. Sarmed H. Kathum Alkhateeb, the continuing education Unit at the University of Baghdad/College of Pharmacy, held an in-person workshop entitled “Independent prescribing” delivered by Assistant Professor Dr. Fadya Yaqoob Al-Hamadani a faculty member at the Clinical Pharmacy Department. The workshop aimed to shed the light on the new role of pharmacist as independent prescriber and give more details regarding this topic . The workshop included several topics including: definition of independent prescribing, its differences from dependent pharmacist. Identify the importance of this new role. The workshop concluded that independent prescribing has multifaceted nature, with legal and professional frameworks to be considered. In addition, the clinical implications, and ethical considerations of this new role. It highlighted the knowledge and skills required for safe and effective independent prescribing practice, including differential diagnosis, drug therapy selection, and patient monitoring. More attention should be paid from the policy makers to this important topic as new role of the pharmacists.
