In line with the directives from the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers, the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and the presidency of the University of Baghdad, to expand green spaces both within and outside the university to preserve the environment, the College of Pharmacy at the University of Baghdad organized a voluntary campaign to plant gardens in the Pharmacognosy and Medicinal Plants Department. The campaign was held under the direct supervision of the Dean of the College, Associate Professor Dr. Sarmed H. Kathem Alkhateeb, with the active participation of all faculty members from the Pharmacognosy and Medicinal Plants Department, in coordination with the Supporting Committee for Volunteer Work and the Agricultural Unit at the college. This initiative is part of the University of Baghdad’s sustainable development agenda, aimed at increasing green spaces and promoting environmental stewardship. The campaign involved planting numerous flowers and evergreen shrubs on April 22, 2024. The primary objectives of the voluntary campaign were to enhance the aesthetic and environmental aspects of the college, foster a culture of planting, and support the major reconstruction efforts currently underway at the college, all under the direct supervision and sponsorship of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the University of Baghdad.
