Under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Professor Dr. Sarmed H. Kathem Alkhateeb, the Scientific Affairs Unit in the College of Pharmacy/University of Baghdad, held an in-person scientific seminar entitled “Proniosome : A novel drug delivery carrier” presented by Pharmacist Samara Mohammed Jassem, graduate student in the Pharmaceutics department. The aim of this seminar is the identification of proniosomes as advanced drug delivery system. Proniosomes have shown their prospective as nanocarriers for drug delivery owing to their small size, good biocompatibility, and capacity to effectively entrap lipophilic drugs in their core. Proniosomes are formed via self-assembly in aqueous media of amphiphilic molecules, form regular structures that encapsulate the drug for many purposes, to increase its access to the blood and target sites, to reduce toxicity, improve drug permeability through the skin, and regulate drug release in the body. Proniosomes are preferred over niosomes due to their dry and more stable nature.
