Under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Professor Dr. Sarmed H. Kathem Alkhateeb, and the Dean of Ibn Rushd College of Education, Professor Dr. Alawi Sader Jazea, the Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit at the College of Pharmacy, in collaboration with the Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit at Ibn Rushd College of Education, organized an awareness sympoisum titled “Drugs and Their Negative Impacts on Society” at the Department of Educational and Psychological Sciences at Ibn Rushd College of Education on Tuesday, February 11, 2025. The seminar featured presentations by Assistant Professor Dr. Lubna AbdalKarim Sabri, faculty member in the College of Pharmacy and Professor Dr. Nadera Jamil Hamad, with the attendance of the Dean’s Assistants and a number of faculty members and students.The aim of the symposium was to raise awareness among young people about the dangers associated with drug use. The seminar highlighted the severe physical and psychological effects of drug abuse, explaining how these substances lead to the deterioration of an individual’s health both physically and mentally .On a social level, the economic damages caused by drug addiction were emphasized.
At the end of the symposium, key recommendations included raising awareness about the dangers of drug addiction on health, psychological stability, and the economy. The importance of using media and organizing workshops in educational institutions was emphasized. Additionally, treating psychological disorders and adhering to medical treatments for sedative medications were highlighted, along with learning effective ways to manage psychological pressures.
