Under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Prof. Dr. Sarmed H. Kadem AlKhateeb, and the Dean of the College of Ibn Rushd Education for Humanities, Prof. Dr. Alawi Sader Jazea, the Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit at the College of Pharmacy, in collaboration with the Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit at the College of Ibn Rushd Education, held an in-person an awareness seminar titled “Suicide Causes and Prevention” at the Department of Psychological and Educational Sciences at the College of Education IbnRushd, delivered by lecturer Dr. Wurood Shihab Ahmed a faculty member at the Pharmaceutical Chemistry Department. The seminar aimed to shed light on the causes of the phenomenon of suicide and ways to address it. The lecturer discussed with the participants the psychological and social factors leading to suicide, such as depression, isolation, and economic pressures, pointing out the importance of early intervention and psychological support. The role of the family, educational institutions, and the media in providing support and awareness was also emphasized. The seminar included several topics, including effective prevention strategies, such as identifying individuals at risk early, enhancing community support, crisis intervention, improving mental health services, and activating their role in the community. The importance of establishing psychological support centers in universities was also discussed, in addition to the need for the cooperation of society and government agencies to confront this phenomenon. The seminar concluded that the importance of promoting awareness of mental health and providing a supportive environment for young people to reduce the prevalence of suicide.
