Under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Professor Dr. Sarmed H. Kathem Alkhateeb, the University Psychological Counseling Unit, in cooperation with the Media and Government Communications Division, the Women’s Affairs Unit, the Scientific Affairs Unit, and the Volunteer Work Committee unit at the College of Pharmacy/University of Baghdad, organized an extracurricular activity in the courtyard of the College’s Deanship. The activity was presented as an educational art exhibition titled “The Dangers of Drug Addiction” with participation from a group of third- and fourth-year pharmacy students, supervised by several faculty members, as part of the Iraqi Drug Control Week activities.
The aim of this extracurricular activity was to raise awareness about the risks and effects of drug addiction on individuals and society and to emphasize the educational role in spreading awareness and building a supportive environment.
The exhibition featured posters, educational handouts, and artistic paintings that depicted the serious harms of drug addiction on mental and physical health, as well as its negative impact on the future of individuals and society. It also highlighted the pharmacist’s role as the first line of defense in education and prevention.
Through this exhibition, the College of Pharmacy sought to convey a clear message: prevention begins with awareness and knowledge, and pharmacy students are essential partners in promoting health awareness and key agents of positive change in society, helping to reinforce a conscious culture of rejecting drug addiction and promoting healthy behaviors among university students.
