Under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Professor Dr. Sarmed H. Kathem Alkhateeb, the Continuing Education Unit in collaboration with Ibn-Sina Unit for electronic education at the University of Baghdad/ College of Pharmacy, held an electronic workshop entitled “How to Become a Good Reviewer for Scientific Journals”, delivered by Assistant Professor Dr. Ali Azeez Ali, a faculty member from the Clinical Pharmacy Department.
The workshop, which was attended by a substantial number of researchers and faculty members from pharmacy colleges across Iraq, focused on the key qualities of an effective reviewer, including expertise, critical thinking, ethical responsibilities, and constructive feedback.
Dr. Ali provided guidance for new reviewers, emphasizing neutrality, avoiding harsh language in feedback to researchers, adhering to the journal’s timeline for review completion, and ensuring that comments help enhance the research quality and improve readability for the audience.
Dr. Ali also encouraged researchers and faculty members to participate as scientific reviewers for Iraqi and international journals. He emphasized that peer review plays a crucial role in strengthening scientific research and improving the quality of published studies. Additionally, he highlighted the personal benefits of serving as a reviewer, such as exposure to new research in one’s field.
The workshop contributed to academic knowledge enrichment, motivating faculty and students to engage in research discussions that enhance the quality of scientific studies.
