The Laboratory Animal House Unit is one of the units affiliated with the Office of the Associate Dean for Scientific and Student Affairs at the College of Pharmacy, University of Baghdad. It is concerned with providing a suitable scientific environment for conducting animal experiments that contribute to supporting the college.
The unit aims to supply laboratory animals with appropriate health conditions for use in scientific studies and practical experiments, while ensuring a safe and healthy environment in accordance with internationally approved standards for the care and use of animals in scientific research. It also strives to support undergraduate and postgraduate projects by providing related laboratory services and by training students and researchers in the scientific and ethical methods of handling laboratory animals.
The unit is responsible for supervising the breeding and housing of laboratory animals, monitoring their health and veterinary conditions, managing and maintaining breeding and experimental rooms, and organizing records related to the use of animals in research. It also coordinates with the various scientific departments to meet experimental requirements and to implement animal welfare regulations, ensuring adherence to ethical standards in scientific research.
Administratively and technically, the unit is affiliated with the Office of the Associate Dean for Scientific and Student Affairs and works in direct collaboration with relevant scientific departments, thereby achieving integration between educational and research aspects and contributing to the advancement of the college’s academic and research excellence.
