Under the supervision of Associate Professor Dr. Sarmed Hashim AlKhateeb, the Dean of the College of Pharmacy-University of Baghdad….The continuing education unit established a workshop under the title (The use and Applications of Ultrasonic Probe Sonicators in Pharmaceutical Research) that was given by Lecturer Dr. Zainab Thabit Salih, a faculty member in the pharmaceutical department. The lecture included an introduction to the probe sonicator device, its uses, the principle of operation, types of sonication, and accessories. The lecture began with defining the specifications of the device as it is laboratory equipment with an ultrasonic generator that creates a signal to operate the transducer, which in turn converts the electrical signal using piezoelectric crystals, i.e., crystals that respond directly to electricity by creating a mechanical vibration. The special applications of this device were reviewed in pharmaceutical preparations for the production of nanoparticles, cosmetics, water, food, ink, paint, wastewater purification, degassing, and vegetable oil extraction. The working principle of the device was clarified, its various parts were identified, and the function of each part was emphasized. The controls that must be done when using the device were stressed. In the end, the method of operating the device for users was discussed, and the many precautions and means necessary to be followed to preserve the device from damage or malfunction were discussed.
