The Faculty of Pharmacy discussed the PHD Degree thesis, entitled” Formulation and evaluation of baclofen as a model gastroretentive solid drug delivery system using FDM 3D printing technique ” by Nuha Mohammed AbdulKhaleq and the supervisor, Prof. Dr. Mowafaq Mohammed Ghareeb in the Department of Pharmaceutics. This study aimed to sustain the release profile of BFN over 12 hours in the stomach by formulation of gastro-floating drug delivery dosage forms in two different approaches using hot melt extrusion (HME) and fused deposition modeling (FDM) 3D printing and then comparing between them and selecting the best approach, thereby decreasing the side effects of the drug and enhancing patient compliance. The thesis recommended Studying and comparing the bioavailability of BFN in both approaches and determining drug pharmacokinetics.
