The Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Associate Professor Dr. Sarmed H. Kathem Alkhateeb, and his student, Assistant Lecturer Saja Majeed Shareef, patented the results of their research as part of the PhD degree in the Pharmacology and Toxicology Department and addressed experimental research on mice. They investigated the use of natural plant substances with the goal of developing a new treatment for acute renal insufficiency caused by blood poisoning, which is one of the causes of kidney failure leading to death or chronic kidney failure, as current treatments are limited to kidney dialysis and antibiotic administration without controlling the inhibition of inflammatory cytokines, which are thought to be the basis of the mechanism of these substances. It should be noted that these findings are still preliminary. And they require additional research and analysis, and we hope that this research will eventually lead to clinical trials to strengthen Iraq’s pharmaceutical industry and Patient’s care.
