Under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Associate Professor Dr. Sarmed H. Kathum Alkhateeb, the Scientific Affairs Unit in the College of Pharmacy/University of Baghdad, held an in-person seminar by the PhD student in the clinical pharmacy department, Rand Muthanna Sulaiman, on the relationship between ERCC2 gene polymorphisms and colorectal cancer susceptibility, as a part of the PhD study thesis to obtain her PhD degree, under the supervision of Professor Dr. Eman Saadi Salih and the oncology specialist Dr. Ahmed Zuhair Al-Sammarraie. The seminar included the importance of early detection of colorectal cancer using potential biomarkers such as ERCC2 genetic polymorphisms. The research methodology to study this relationship included collecting blood samples from the study participants for DNA extraction and genotyping. The study, which included 126 participants of colorectal cancer patients and healthy individuals, revealed a lack of association between colorectal cancer and ERCC2 genetic polymorphisms; therefore, these polymorphisms cannot be considered biomarkers for individuals at risk of developing colorectal cancer.
