Under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Associate Professor Dr. Sarmed H. Kathum Alkhateeb, and in cooperation with Cardiff University/ College of Pharmacy, the Continuing Education Unit, in cooperation with the Ibn Sina Unit at the University of Baghdad/College of Pharmacy, held an electronic workshop about the innovations in teaching and assessing pharmacy students’ communication skills, delivered by Dr. Louise Hughes, a senior lecturer at Cardiff University/ College of Pharmacy, and Assistant Professor Dr. Fadya Yaqoob Al-Hamadani, a faculty member at the Clinical Pharmacy Department. The workshop included two lectures. First, a lecture from Dr. Louise aimed to increase awareness of how to teach and evaluate communication skills for pharmacy students at Cardiff University, to understand the value of feedback from their peers, and to improve communication skills and appreciate the benefits of using trained actors in teaching and evaluation. The second lecture by Dr. Fadya included a thorough definition and explanation of the pioneering experience at the College of Pharmacy/University of Baghdad to conduct the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) for Pharm-D students and a comparison between the two experiences. Finally, the challenges facing the faculty members in this regard and how to overcome them were explained.
