Under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Associate Professor Dr. Sarmed H. Kathum Alkhateeb, the Continuing Education Unit at the University of Baghdad/College of Pharmacy, held an in-person workshop entitled “Electron Paramagnetic Resonance,” delivered by Assistant Professor Maadh Qusay Abdulkadir, a faculty member at the Pharmaceutical Chemistry Department. The workshop aimed to define the electron paramagnetic resonance. The workshop included two topics: the definition of electron paramagnetic resonance, its theory, and its purpose, whereas the second topic represents showing the different applications in analyzing various samples and materials. The workshop concluded that it has applicable benefits in certain fields by its ability to predict the formation and occurrence of intermediates and free radicals either during the chemical reactions inside the laboratories and, as a result, the happening of reactions or inside the live organisms during the exposure, for example, to ionizing radiation, and what role such reactive species play as toxicants or mutants for the genes mutations that end with serious future diseases like cancer or congenital malformations in newborn babies. Also, it concludes the roles in the crude oil industry and geology for studying rocks.
