The Dean of the College of Pharmacy/University of Baghdad, Associate Professor Dr. Sarmed H. Kathum Alkhateeb, and Lecturer Dr. Saja Majid Sharif, faculty member at Al-Israa University/College of Pharmacy, earned a patent named “The use of carphone oil to treat acute renal insufficiency developed by fatty polysaccharide”. The patent was issued by the Ministry of Planning/Central Agency for Standardization and Quality Control, where carphone oil has proved effective in treating kidney failure resulting from septicemia. The aim of this invention was to find a new treatment for acute kidney failure that occurs as a result of septicemia, which is one of the most important causes of kidney failure leading to death or chronic kidney failure in hospitals in the world in general and especially in Iraq since current treatments are limited to kidney dialysis and administering antibiotics without controlling the reduction of cytokines, which are the key ingredient in blood poisoning and therefore kidney injury.
