Under the supervision of the esteemed Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Associate Professor Dr. Sarmed H. Kathem Alkhateeb, an in-person workshop entitled “Water Pollution by Chemicals and Its Impact on Water Scarcity in Iraq” was held. The workshop was presented by Associate Lecturer Zahraa Abdalamir Ketan from the Human Resources Department and Associate Lecturer Duha Kadhem Salman, a faculty member in the Department of Pharmacognosy and Medicinal Plants. The workshop aimed to explore ways to address the problems of water pollution and scarcity and to discuss the key measures needed to reduce pollution in the Tigris and Euphrates rivers and protect water quality in Iraq. The workshop also focused on the main causes of these problems, their impact on the environment, and human life, as well as the elements and materials responsible for pollution. Additionally, solutions for tackling water pollution were presented, including the reuse of treated wastewater.

The workshop concluded with discussions on methods for treating river water in Iraq from chemical pollution caused by various factors. It also covered how treated wastewater can be safely reused after the removal of pollutants, making it suitable for environmental and human use. Finally, the workshop highlighted the essential measures needed to reduce pollution in Iraq’s rivers.
