Under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Associate Professor Dr. Sarmed H. Kathem Alkhateeb, the Scientific Affairs Unit held an in-person scientific lecture entitled “Computational Screening of Roxithromycin against the SARS CoV-2 (COVID-19),” delivered by Assistant Lecturer Yasir Falih Muhsin in the Pharmaceutical Chemistry Department. The goal of the lecture was to present scientific topics on the treatment of Roxithromycin against the COVID-19 virus in order to exchange ideas and review the latest scientific findings in this regard. The lecture covered various topics, such as an introduction to the COVID-19 virus, as well as an explanation of the molecular docking method of Roxithromycin against the enzymes Mpro, PLpro, and RdRp. It also discussed the excellent docking results of this drug and its use either alone or in combination with other drugs. The ideal binding with the PLpro and RdRp enzymes was highlighted, with the lowest binding energy of the molecule bound to it. At the end of the lecture, questions directed to the researcher by the attendees were answered.
