Under the supervision of Associate Professor Dr. Sarmed H. Kathum AlKhateeb, the Dean of the College of Pharmacy-University of Baghdad….The continuing education unit, established a workshop under the title (Animal Study Design) that was given by Assistant Professor Dr. Munaf Hashim Abdulrazzaq, a faculty member in the pharmacology and toxicology department.Research conducted on laboratory animals is considered one of the important studies in the field of studying diseases and their emergence, in addition to knowing appropriate treatment methods and choosing safe and effective treatment. One of the important things in studies conducted on animals is choosing the appropriate type of animal model for each experiment, which is an important matter that requires the knowledge of the researcher’s genetic and physiological characteristics of laboratory animals.Through this workshop, the most important conditions to be taken into account in choosing the appropriate type of study were presented, which include taking into account the genetic similarity between laboratory animals and humans, in addition to paying attention to animal rights and designing experiments that do not conflict with these rights. In addition, the types of laboratory animal models and the importance of each type were discussed and the benefits derived from each type were clarified, as the focus was on displaying models of the most important types of mice used within research laboratories and explaining their research benefits for these animals.
