Under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Associate Professor Dr. Sarmed H. Kathum Alkhateeb, the Continuing Education Unit at the University of Baghdad/College of the Pharmacy, held an in-person scientific workshop on studying the benefits of certain materials extracted from natural plants in the treatment of melasma and identifying some of their side effects, delivered by Lecturer Noor Sabah Jaafar, a Faculty Member at the Pharmacognosy and Medicinal Plants Department.  The aim of the workshop was to identify melasma, as it is considered an important chronic disease, and explain the available treatments that are extracted from natural plants. The workshop included several topics, such as identifying how melasma occurs or what the causes of melasma are. The prevalence of the disease was explained by the fact that women’s incidence is higher than men’s. As well as recognizing the methods of treatment and how to reduce the severity of the disease, treatment methods included some manufactured chemical compounds and others were substances extracted from natural plants, where the most important side effects were explained and how the drugs were used correctly.
