The Faculty of Pharmacy discussed the master’s thesis tagged “Formulation and Evaluation of Solid Dispersion-Based Pediatric Chewable Jelly of Risperidone” by Zahraa Kareem Hussein and her supervisor, Assistant Professor Dr. Khalid Kadhem Al-Kinani, in the Pharmaceutics Department. This thesis was intended to formulate risperidone in a new dosage form, which is risperidone chewable jelly, to improve pediatric patient compliance and attain maximum drug efficacy. Risperidone is described for the short-term management of acute manic or mixed episodes linked to bipolar disorder. This study included attempts to enhance the dissolution rate and solubility of risperidone by solid-dispersion system using different polymers. Risperidone solid dispersion optimum formula was prepared as risperidone chewable jelly. These chewable jelly are adjusted and, in conclusion, the results of study proved successful formulating risperidone chewable jelly that can be used as a new easily swallowed drug for the pediatric population with possible improvement in bioavailability.
