Under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Associate Professor Dr. Sarmed H. Kathem Alkhateeb, an awareness campaign about the dangers of electronic cigarettes was held on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, under the name “Don’t Burn Yourself or Those around You”. This event was organized in collaboration with the Volunteer Support Committee and a group of fourth-year students, under the guidance of their professors: Lecturer Dr. Shaima Abdul Zahra, and Lecturer Eman Sadiq, faculty members in the Clinical Laboratory Sciences Department, as well as Associate Professor Dr. Fadia Al-Hamdani, Associate Professor Dr. Ali Aziz, and Dr. Muhammad Yawaz, faculty members in the Clinical Pharmacy Department. The campaign included a visit to the Al-Amal Distinguished School for Girls to raise awareness among the youth about the dangers of electronic cigarettes, especially considering their widespread use and the misconception among smokers that they are less harmful than regular cigarettes. The campaign aimed to educate and inform students about the serious risks of electronic cigarettes and advised them to quit, highlighting the dangers they pose. Electronic smoking involves inhaling vapor from heated liquid containing chemicals, which is no less harmful and dangerous than regular smoking, as it contains a high percentage of nicotine that can lead to addiction and consequently damage the lungs. The campaign also included the distribution of brochures and informational materials to the schoolgirls to inform them about the dangers of smoking and ways to reduce it.
