Under the patronage of the esteemed Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Associate Professor Dr. Sarmed H. Kathem Alkhateeb, a group of third-year (PharmD) students at the College of Pharmacy / University of Baghdad organized an awareness-raising extracurricular activity on Alzheimer’s disease on Monday, December 9, 2024. The event was supervised by Associate Professor Nour Sabah Jafar, a faculty member at the Pharmacognosy and Medicinal Plants Department. The activity included a lecture entitled “Facts about Alzheimer’s,” delivered by a group of students. The lecture discussed the definition of Alzheimer’s as a type of dementia, in which brain cells atrophy, leading to memory loss. This disease affects women at a higher rate than men and is considered one of the leading causes of disability and dependence on others among the elderly worldwide. The lecture also covered the causes of the disease, its symptoms, and ways to slow the progression of dementia through medications and certain health practices, in addition to emphasizing the importance of disease prevention through regular physical, mental, and social activity.
