Under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Professor Dr. Sarmed H. Kathem Alkhateeb, the Scientific Affairs Unit at the University of Baghdad/College of Pharmacy held an in-person scientific seminar entitled “Polymer-Based Wafer,” delivered by Pharmacist Rasha Hameed Khalid, the MSc student at the Pharmaceutics Department. The seminar aimed to introduce polymeric wafers, an advanced technology that utilises porous polymeric matrices for rapid drug delivery. Most wafers are produced using lyophilization (freeze-drying), which enhances their ability to rapidly disintegrate upon contact with moisture. The seminar included several topics, including types of polymeric wafers, such as flash-dissolving wafers, melt-away wafers, sustained-release wafers, and flash-dispersed wafers; the preparation of polymeric wafers, in which the active ingredient is incorporated into a polymer matrix in dissolved, emulsified, or dispersed form. Additionally, the seminar covered the application of taste-masking techniques when necessary
