Under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Professor Dr. Sarmed H. Kathem Alkhateeb, the Continuing Education Unit at the College of Pharmacy / University of Baghdad held a personal workshop entitled “Techniques of DNA Extraction, Purification, and Quantification,” delivered by the lecturer Dr. Aminah Ali Abid, a faculty members in the Clinical Laboratory Sciences Department. The workshop aimed to clarify the factors that determine the selection of the optimal methods for extracting DNA according to their use in laboratory diagnosis or forensic medicine, in addition to clarifying the fastest devices used to determine the purity and quantity of DNA with high accuracy.  The workshop included several aspects, including defining DNA, methods used in cell lysis, DNA extraction, determining the quantity of DNA and its qualification, as well as strategies used in DNA storage. The workshop summarized the clinical significance of extraction purity DNA for genetic analysis, including DNA profiling, heritage testing, parent determination, and organism identification, as well as other purposes like scientific genetic modification and introducing it into cells, medical diagnosis of various diseases, and forensics for determining the individuals in crime victim.
