Kathem Alkhateeb, the University Psychological Counseling Unit at the University of Baghdad/College of Pharmacy held an educational seminar entitled “Sleep Disorders” delivered by Lecturer Dr. Farah Kais Abdul-Wahab, faculty member in the Pharmacology and Toxicology Department.

The seminar aimed to clarify, raise awareness, and treat what is known as sleep disorders, a condition that is widespread and increasing among people of all ages and social classes, affecting men, women, and even children.

The seminar included several topics like: definition of sleep disorders, symptoms, causes, risk factors, complications, the relationship between thyroid disorders and sleep disorders, and the effect of mobile phone use on sleep, tips for improving sleep quality, and treatment that depends on the type of sleep disorder.

The seminar concluded that sleep disorders are on the rise, necessitating treatment due to the health problems they cause, including poor concentration at work, weakened immunity, and an increased risk of various illnesses. The main treatment solutions, depending on the type of sleep disorder, include establishing a regular sleep schedule, maintaining good sleep habits, engaging in regular physical activity, following a healthy and balanced diet, avoiding nicotine and caffeinated beverages before bedtime. Treatment may also include medications and supplements under medical supervision
