Under the guidance of Associate Professor Dr. Sarmed H. Kathum AlKhateeb, the Dean of the University of Baghdad College of Pharmacy, the Continuing Education Unit, organized a workshop with the title (New Health Insurance program in Iraq (that was provided by Dr. Ali Azeez Al-Jumaili from the Clinical Pharmacy Department and Dr Ehab Adbul-Kareem Khalef from the Health Insurance Authority, the Ministry of Health. Dr. Ali summarized the characteristics of the current Iraqi Healthcare Systems including public and private sectors. In addition, he described the main four models of health systems globally and how can we use the previous experience with health insurance to enhance our healthcare system and successfully implementing the new Iraqi Health Insurance Program. Dr Ali also summarized the findings of his collaborative study with his MS student (Hayder Naji) entitled the (The insights of Healthcare Providers regarding the new Iraqi health insurance program). It is worth to be mentioned that this study findings were requested officially by the Health Insurance Authority to help in the adoption of the new health insurance program.Thereafter, Dr Ehab provided a summary about the strategies the Health Insurance Authority to adopt this new program and all the efforts they do to collaborate with other ministries to successfully adopt this health insurance program which most healthcare providers hope to enhance the quality of healthcare services provided to Iraqi patients. The good news is that program enrollment has launched officially on January 2, 2023, and will cover 300,000 governmental employees in the first year (2023).
