Under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Professor Dr. Sarmed H. Kathem Alkhateeb, the Continuing Education Unit at the University of Baghdad/College of Pharmacy held an in-person workshop entitled “Thorndike’s Learning Theory: Unlocking Educational Excellence” delivered by Assistant Lecturer Dr. Thulfiqar Nidhal, a faculty member at the Clinical Pharmacy Department.

The workshop aimed to introduce participants to the principles of Thorndike’s Theory of Learning and explain how to employ its three laws to develop students’ skills and enhance the effectiveness of pharmaceutical education.

The workshop included several topics, including an explanation of the three laws of learning: Effect, Readiness, and Exercise. It also included the application of the theory in pharmaceutical education through simulations, case studies, practical learning, and the integration of technology to support practice-based learning. The workshop concluded that applying Thorndike’s principles can transform education from theoretical indoctrination to active, practice-based learning, enhancing student motivation and increasing their ability to retain information. The workshop also emphasized the vital role of faculty members in creating a stimulating learning environment that encourages experience-based and interactive engagement between students and the subject matter.
It further highlighted the importance of adopting modern teaching strategies based on Thorndike’s principles to enhance critical thinking and creativity among pharmacy students.
