Under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Professor Dr. Sarmed H. Kathem Alkhateeb, the Continuing Education Unit at the College of Pharmacy / University of Baghdad held an in-person workshop entitled “Artificial Intelligence Applications and the Future of the Digital Library Sector”. The workshop was delivered by Assistant Professor Suaad Hammoud Muslim, Head of the Library Division.
The workshop aimed to emphasize that libraries can provide effective support in various fields, such as data discovery, copyright management, data handling, and preservation. It highlighted that artificial intelligence (AI) is likely to bring about a significant transformation in daily knowledge-based work through its capabilities in translation, summarization, text generation, and more. AI tools and applications can be directly integrated into the professional domain of library services.
The workshop covered several key topics, including the use of AI in operating robots and smart mechanical arms that deliver information resources to users in an automated and efficient manner. This contributes to saving time and effort while ensuring that researchers have quick access to essential resources. The session also discussed the use of roaming robots in libraries to support daily tasks, as well as AI-powered chat systems designed to interact with users, understand their needs, and respond to their questions and inquiries accurately and promptly. Furthermore, the workshop noted that AI has been increasingly adopted in educational and service institutions since 2018 and has now become a vital component in enhancing performance across various tasks and responsibilities.
The workshop concluded that artificial intelligence presents a valuable opportunity to advance the reality of libraries by supporting office operations, employing modern technologies to protect information resources, and improving the efficiency of services provided to users.
