The College of Pharmacy discussed the master’s degree thesis in the Pharmacology and Toxicology Department tagged” Evaluation of Possible Protective Effect of Guggulsteron Against Cisplatin-Induced Nephrotoxicity in Rats” by Ruya Ali Hayder and the supervisor, Assist. Prof. Dr. Munaf Hashim .The thesis aimed to evaluate Evaluation of Possible Protective Effect of Guggulsteron Against Cisplatin-Induced Nephrotoxicity in Rats by measuring some serum biomarkers related to kidney function , including serum creatinine , plasma urea nitrogen and Measurement of renal inflammatory markers:including NF-kB, TNF-a, IL-1b and Measurement of renal Antioxidant Index( SOD , GSH) and Malondialdehyde (MDA) The concept of the thesis Data analysis revealed guggulsterone treatment group resulted in a significant decrease compared to the cisplatin group (P <0.05) in plasma urea nitrogen and serum creatinin levels, as well as a significant decrease (P<0.05) in the activities of the pro-inflammatory cytokines TNF_alpha and IL-1, and NF-κB. Furthermore, when compared to the Cisplatin (positive control) group, guggulsterone treatment resulted in a significant (p<0.05) increase in the activities of antioxidant enzymes (SOD, reduced GSH) and a significant (P<0.05) decrease in MDA levels. When compared to the cisplatin group with control group, histopathological examination revealed significant improvements in kidney sections of rats treated with guggulsterone at various doses.
