Under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Associate Professor Dr. Sarmed H. Kathum Alkhateeb, the Scientific Affairs Unit in the University of Baghdad/College of Pharmacy, held an in-person scientific seminar on the updates in the treatment of peptic ulcers, delivered by pharmacist Hassan Ali Hassan, the MSc student at the Clinical Pharmacy Department. The seminar aimed to raise awareness of the importance of correctly diagnosing peptic ulcers, identifying risk factors, adhering to the therapeutic protocol, especially when using antibiotics to treat H. Pylori bacteria, which includes choosing the appropriate antibiotic appropriately and for the appropriate period, highlighting the danger of using antibiotics without a prescription, the occurrence of antibiotic resistance and its adverse effects on human health, and finally, the primary and secondary prevention of peptic ulcers resulting from using NSAIDs. The seminar included several topics, such as defining peptic ulcers, prevalence rates, and symptoms, in addition to the causes that lead to this disease, methods of diagnosis, and methods of treatment and monitoring.
