Under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Professor Dr. Sarmed H. Kadhem Alkhateeb, the Scientific Affairs Unit at the University of Baghdad/College of Pharmacy held an in-person scientific workshop entitled  Using AI to Detect Antibiotic Resistance  delivered by Assistant Lecturer Mohammad Hassan , a Faculty member in the Clinical Laboratory Sciences Department. The workshop aimed to highlight AI’s role in rapidly detecting antibiotic resistance, showcasing technologies like machine learning and IDseq, while addressing its benefits, challenges, and future potential in improving diagnostics and antibiotic stewardship. The seminar included several topics, including: AI technologies in detecting antibiotic resistance, applications of machine learning and deep learning, the IDseq system for pathogen identification, benefits and challenges of AI-based diagnostics and future prospects of AI in antibiotic stewardship. The workshop concluded that AI plays a vital role in enhancing the detection of antibiotic resistance by providing faster, more accurate diagnostics, supporting precision medicine, and improving global antibiotic stewardship despite existing challenges.
